We start the flight with the deep grooves of Fatback band with "Feel my soul" and we move directly to Ghana to discover the group Afrofunk, with the tracks "Tei Egwu" and "Obanya Special", from the very obscure 1973's LP Body Music.
Next stop Nigeria: first, we find Femi Kuti with the wonderfoul "You Better Ask Yourself" from the new album Day by Day. We follow with the powerfull Ikenga Superstars of Africa playing "Nwannemu Oho" from the 77's LP Greedy Man; and we finish the nigerian excursion with mr. Orlando Julius Ekemode and His Afro Sounders, with "Ketekete Koro".
The last songs are a training for next concerts and new Albums: we find Kokolo with "More Consideration" and US3 with "Snakes".

TheFlyingCarpet is ready for a new trip. Et il parait que c'est le printemps.
We start our excursion with IG Culture's "Revelation", from the new LP Zen Badism, and with Parliament (Funkadelic) and the track "P Funk (wants to get funked up)", from Mothership Connection.
Next stop, Herman Kelly & Life are searching "Who’s the funky DJ?" (and we to), and Meshell Ndegeocello celebrate the Funk Brothers with the classic motown song "Cloud Nine". We meet The Souljazz Orchestra, playing "Interested Benevolence", from the LP Manifesto, and Jimi Tenor & Kabu Kabu, with "triple helix".
Last stop with Karl Hector & The Malcouns, with the track "Nyx", from Sahara Swing LP, and Kokolo, with "Everybody (Tryin' to Get Buy)" from More Consideration, a little appetizer waiting the live show.
Finally, the landing is very sweet with the voice of Lorez Alexandria, asking for "Send In The Clowns".

TheFlyingCarpet is ready to start a new trip. This week the captain is alone on board, only accompanied by music. We strat the trip from Greece, with Thanassis Papakonstantinou's "S'afino gia", From Agripnia LP. Next stop, Chicago, where we listen the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, with "Jupiter", from their 2005's album Hypnotic/Green. We stay in the US, where we discover Ganimian and his Oriental Music, with "Come With Me to the Casbah", from 1959's homonimous LP. In the Casbah we find Randy Weston, playing "In Memory of", from the '63's LP Highlife, Music From the New African Nations. Quick stop to Berlin, where we continue to discover 4th Dimension, from Jimi Tenor & Kabu Kabu; the song we listen today is "Mystery Spot". From Europe to West Africa: FRed Fischer Atolobor play "W.T.F.S.", from Afrobeat Nirvana compilation of Vampisoul records.
We come back to the US, first stop in 1969, with Pucho & his Latin Soul Brothers playing "Got Myself a Good Man"; second stop in 1977 with Pat Lundy's version of "Work Song". We end th show with the voice of Carmen McRae, interpreting the Stevie Wonder's classic "You Are the Sunshine of my Life".

TheFlyingCarpet is back. This week's flight is sunny and quiet. We start with the groove of The Lafayette Afro Rock Band with the song "Red Match Box", from the LP AFON.
We follow the funky mood with the Miami's drummer Herman Kelly & Life playing " Dance to the Drummer's Beat", from the '78's LP Percussion explosion, and we move to Africa to listen the father of african funk, Geraldo Pino, with the Heartbeaters, playing his panafrican anthem "Africans Must Unite" from Heavy Heavu Heavy LP.
We move to Chicago to discover Mandingo Griot Society, a project of a kora player Foday Musa Suso, featuring Don Cherry, to listen two tracks of the homonimous LP : "Africa" and "Sounds from the Bush", both from 1979.
We move to Europe, where we listen "Global Party" of Jimi Tenor & Kabu Kabu, from their last album 4th Dimension. A quick stop to Canada, to listen The Souljazz Orchestra's "Kapital", from the LP Manifesto. And finally, we close with Dewey Redman's "Unknown Tongue" from the '79's Musics album.

For our unconditional listeners, or for whos likes the flavour of old AM radio shows, we have decided to post equally the episode. We have prepared a special flight to Ghana, taking on board Kwame, from Kwame Afrovibes Band. It's a good opportunity to discover ghanaian music throught the experiences of one musician that live the scene in the 70's and in the 80's. We listen some classic afrofunk songs, we discover some track from the first album of Kwame Afrovibes Band, and Kwame play some live track in the studio.

We start the flight from Nigeria, with Fred Fisher and his song "Asa-Sa", and we follow to S.Francisco discovering the very interesting Aphrodesia's album Lagos by Bus, with two tracks: "Holy Ghost Invasion" and "Every Day". We come back to Eruope to start listening the wonderful 4th Dimension, the last work of Jimi Tenor & Kabu Kabu. The track we choose today is "Floating Orange". Floating as a flying carpet. We are definitly ready to meet the Steve Reid Ensemble, with the track "Daxaar": massive! Form a great drummer to another: Art Blakey, here with the Jazz Messengers, playing "Night in Tunisia". A classic that we love particularly to celebrate the 20th edition. Last stop of todays trip: Etiopia. We start with Mahmoud Ahmed, and "Kulun Mankwalesh", and we finishing with the master Mulatu Astatké, with "Yekatit", from the wonderful L'Arome Vinyl “Ethiojazz: Mulatu Astatke“.

The pragramemd route for this week: we start with an obscure Harlem Underground Band's song, "Smoking Cheeba Cheba", from the 76's LP Harlem Underground. We follow with Malone & Barnes and Spontaneous Simplicity and they track "Journey to the Stars". We follow with Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson, with a long and vibrant live version of The Bottle/Guan Guanco. From US to Finland, were Jimi Tenor accompanied by Kabu Kabu ply "I Wanna Hook Up With You", from the 2007's LP Joystone. We move then to Milano, 1974, where two brasilians, Ezy & Isaac play "Bawagbe", from the 1974 Ri-fi's LP Soul Rock. A little stop in Nigeria, with Tony Allen & the Africa 70 with a '76 track "Progress" from the Progress LP (reedited now by Vampisoul with the other 3 fist Tony Allen 70's LP. And dinally, "Over & Over", the Charles Earland song from the Perception LP.

TheFlyingCarpet never stops.
This week we start the Trip from Frisco with the combo Aphrodesia, witht the song "Flat Tire". They dont have a flying carpet but they trip with a bio-oil bus.
After that we take on board a guest for this week's trip: Aaron from Alma Afrobeat Ensemble. We discover the trayectory of this group, from the beginnings in Chicago until now-a-days story, in Barcelona. We will listen three tracks of this combo from their forthcoming album (which presentation scheduled in april 09) : we start with “Kudja”, we follow with “Shameless“ and we finished woth “Yoruba“ . Then, Aaron guide us to Canada, to listen the madagascar's born guitarist Donné Roberts with the song "Malembo", from the African Guitar Summit album, a collective project of african guitar players living in Canada.
To finish our flight we choose the 10 minutes wonderful track "Dove", by Cymande, from their 1972's first album “Cymande”, edited on Janus records.

We start with Dinah Washington, singing the Cole Porter standar "I've Got You Under My Skin" and we follow with Sade, with a Cottonbelly mix of the popular "By Your Side". Nexts evidences: Marlena Shaw with "California Soul" and Letta Mbulu with "Mahlalela (Lazy Bones) from his 1970's Chisa Record's album Letta.
More proves? Take this: The African Divas with Frederic Galliano, in this case the senegalese singer Naffi Diédhou, with the groovy song "Koutiom", and the nigerian Lijadu Sisters, with "Orere Eljigbo".
We follow the demonstration with Rokia Traoré and the song "Nienafing", Nina Simone with "Obeah Woman" and Lorez Alexandria with "I'm Whishin".

TheFlyingCarpet is back. We start the Trip from Zambia, with Chris Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family playing “My Ancestors“. We move to Cotonou, Benin, where we meet again the T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo with "Aihe Ni Kpe We", and we flight right to Nigeria, with The Semi Colon, playing "Nekwaha semi colon".
We leave Africa and we move to Paris, to meet the Lafayette Afro-Rock Band with "Conga", and to Chicago, where the Chicago Afrobeat Project present "Tibet On It" recorded live in 2005. We make a fast stop with Marlena Shaw and his "Liberation Conservation", and we go to find Philip Cohran & The Artistic Heritage Ensemblewith the faboulous song "Unity". We finish with a strong jazz mood, first with the Ethiopian Tesfa Maryam Kidané and "Heywèté", from the wonderful saga of Les Ethiopiques, and finally with Miles Davis and his "Gènérique" of the Luis Malle's film "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud". We start this trip from NY with Exit 9's song "Jive Man" from his only LP Straight Up, edited in 1975 by Brunswick Record. We follow the flight with Tony Allen's “Afro Disco Beat“, from his 77's LP Progress, and with Osibisa's “Happy Children”, form homonimous LP of 1973. We maintain the route with the legendary french group The Lafayette Afro Rock Band and his song “Djungi”, from the Malik LP, of 1975.
To 70's taday? We flight in the time to meet The Souljazz Orchestra with "The Blind Leading The Blind“, form 2007's LP Freedom No Go Die. But we are nostalgic today and we come back to the 70's, precisly in Benin, where we meet the ”Tout Puissant“ Orchestra Poly-Rythmo, with the 10 minutes really powerfull song “Ne te fâches pas", from the wonderfoul Soundway's compilation The Kings of Benin Urban Groove, 1972-1980. On n'est pas fâchés! Now we are tout puissants, so we move forward to 2008, where we meet the Whasington DC band Chopteeth, with “Do Days”, from their first LP. Finally, we arrive at our destination, as usual, but before to leave the carpet, check the Marlena Shaw's classic "Woman of the Ghetto“.

TheFlyingCarpet #11 episode starts with a tribute to the 50 years of Motown Records. Tree song to celebrate this hstoric record labels: Willie Hutch with "Brothers Gonna Work It Out”, from 1973; Smokey Robinson with Why You Wanna See My Bad Side“, from 1978's LP Cool Breeze; and The Temptation feat. Rick James with “Standing on the Top”, 1982's anthem.
After this, we move quickly in Nigeria, where we meet The Funkees, a spectacular nigerian funky band that release only two LP's, and we listen the classic “Dancing Time”, from 1977's Now I'm A Man, and the les classic “Abraka”, from the 1974's first LP Point of No Return.
We stay in Nigeria but we move back and forth in the time. First we meet again Seun Kuti, to listen another song of the great new LP Many Things, the powerful “African Problems”. Secondly we meet Fela Ransome Kuti, firstly with Africa 70's, in a 13' song Sense Wiseness, the B side of the 75's LP Monkey Banana, and after with his Koola Lobitos, with “Omuti Soul”, from the Lagos Baby reedition of Vampisoul. Finally, to conclude the flight, we meet Hugh Masekela introducing the Hedzoleh Soundz, edited by Chisa Records in 1975, with “Kaa Ye Oya”.
