TheFlyingCarpet start from Kinshasa, Congo, this week:
Staff Benda Bilili with the track “Avramandole” from their LP Très Très Bien, pure fire.
First stop, with Tony Allen, celebrating the release of his new album Secret Agent: we will listen two tracks “Secret Agent“ and "Swift".
Direct line: Tony call Fela. So Mr. Fela Ransome Kuti & Nigeria 70 (just few time after they leave the name Koola Lobitos) with "My Lady Frustration", from the L.A. Sessions of 1969.
More Nigeria, but different mood. Another classic of afrobeat, here in a tropical disco mood: Orlando Julius with "Disco Hi-Life", version 2009. More disco-boogie from Nigeria, in the beginning of 80s, with Dizzy K “Excuse Me Baby".
The next destination is a reminder: we're waiting the concert of his majesty Mulatu Astatke & the Heliocentrics, so what best than listen a live version of the masterpiece "Yekermo Sew".
Before landing, some jazzfunk from the 70s. We are with Byard Lancaster and his track "dogtown", from the just re-released LP Funny Funky Rib Crib (originally edited in 1974).
Enjoy this journey and come back on the carpet next week.
