TheFlyingCarpet is ready to a new astonishing trip.
We start the journey from Cairo, with Salah Ragab and the Cairo Jazz Band with “Mervat“, from the LP Ramadan in Space Time. We continue with nubian master Ali Hassan Kuban performing “Mabruk“. We move then to Ethiopia, where we meet Mulatu Astatke & the Heliocentrics, with “Esketa Dance“; next stop Congo, with the Staff Benda Bilili and the song "Je t'aime”, from the LP Très Très Fort, on Crammed rec. Ready to move again, we're in Algeria 70's musical scene with Groupe El Azhar playing "Mazar Nesker Mazal (I'm still getting drunk...still), from Sublime Frequiencies' Algerian Proto-Rai Underground LP.
After that, we cross the Atlantic but we dont loose the arab mood, thanks to Ahmed Abdoul-Malik. We listen two track from his East Meet West Lp: “La Ilbky (dont cry)“ and “El Ghada (the jungle)“. We stay with Ahmed Abdoul-Malik, this time playing Art Blakey and The Afro-Drum Ensemble. We listen “Obirin African (woman of Africa)" and “Ayiko Ayiko (welcome, welcome my darling)” from The African Beat of 1962. Last stop Brazil, with Gal Costa's track “Tuareg“ from 69's homonious album.
Enjoy the journey anc come back next week.
