The first compilation we listen to is the 3rd album of the series: Revenge of the ghetto grooves with the Theme song from Black Belt Jones (a blaxploitation film from 1974, featured in the 2004 documentary - the 50 Worst Movies Ever Made) by Dennis Coffey (bad film, great soundtrack!). Then we listen to another Theme song by Wood, Brass & Steel and to Evolution by Magnum, both tracks from the 5th compilation: Magnum. The next stop is with George Benson and the tune Dance from the LP: The harder they come, followed by The Fabulous Counts and they hit song Dirty Red. We then move on to the Evolution compilation with Hal Singer´s Malcom X tune, Sound Experience´s Boogie
Woogie and Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes´ Cosmic Funk. After that we listen to Afro Strut by The Nite-Liters, Your Mama wants ya back by Betty Davis and Miss Funky Fox by Exit 9, all taken from the 4th compilation: Fully Loaded. We finish the trip with the track When She Made me promise by The
Beginning of the End from the compilation The harder they come. I hope you enjoyed the trip and you´ll be back next week for more musical adventures on the flying carpet! Hasta pronto!

This week, the voice is the captain and we're off to Zambia first, with Chrissy Zebby Tembo & Nogozi Family and the track Trouble Maker, followed by Tamedun with the track Tamedun don come from the Nu Afrobeat Experience album (Nigerian bands). Then, we stay in Nigeria to hear Ayetoro and their track Revenge of the flying monkeys from the same album. The next stop is in the States with Antibalas and the track Big Man taken from the album Who is this America? We then chill out with Cymande's Willie's headache and go straight to Senegal to listen to the Orchestra Baobab and the track Kelen Ati Leen from A Night at club Baobab. After that we meet Plunky again (see FC 14 for the interview) with Don't give up. I then go on about pulp fiction (comics) to introduce a series of compilations called Pulp Fusion - we listen to the track Like a thief in the night by Michael Longo. And then the carpet flies to Lebanon to listen to the great Rabih Abou Khalil and the track Tsarka from the Blue Camel album. The landing is quite psychedelic with Stereoscope Jerk Explosion's Bengali Corporation from the album La panthere pop (edited by Cosmic Groove). The captain for the day and her sexy pilot hope you'll enjoy the trip! See you next week with the real captain back on board!

Second stop in Sweden, where we find the group Music Is The Weapon with the track “G.F.”.
After that, we meet again the voice and the word of Camille Yarbrough in a deep and hypnotic interpretation of “All Hid”. Next stop Amsterdam, where the Aouth-African combo Jabula recorder the LP Africa Awake where are presents some mebers of Cymande; from this album we listen the track “Thunder“.
And logically, after that, why not listening one of our alltime favourite band: Cymande playing “Trevorgus“ from Second Time Round, edited by Janus in 1973. More caribbean groove with The Invaders from Bermuda Island. Don't be afraid, the carpet have no problem of magnetism or strange attractions to earth. We have only the pleasure to listen “Bossa Blue“ from Spacing Out, the only LP of the band edited in 1970 by Duane Records.
After the caribbean, a quick trip to the north. First to UK, rendez-vous with Bonobo
and “Between the lines (nostalgia 77 Remix)“, and after to Detroit, where Moodymann create “When she“ from his darksouljazzy 12" Black Mahogani II.
The Landing is in company of Vieux Farka Touré, playing the track “Chèrie Lé“ from his new work Fondo. Is a taste of the forthcoming flight that we will have with him.
Enjoy the flight and come back soon.

Next stop: more voices and more words: not only a musican, not only a poet, not only a performer: a very unconnventional man, Anthony Joseph and the Spasm Band interpretating “Vero“.
More pleasure for the 70's black music movement: we stay in the States with Bohannon, short but deep: “ the stop and go” from the homonimous LP.
More 70's, more states: BT Express, “Energy to Burn“.
We're well in the '70, but a bit of “saudade“ for Africa: the carpet directed to South Africa, mister Dick Khoza with a monster track, "African Jive".
A short mouvement to the present: the Swedish combo Music is the Weapon with “Alla Maste Dansa“. From the scholar, to the master. He can't be absent from the flight: Fela Anikupalo Kuti starred by The Africa 70 band and with the presence of a voice of a strong influence, Sandra Akanke Isidore. 15 minutes of inspired insanity: floating “Upside Down“.
Finally, another legend of african music. A living legend. Is an honour to end the 30rd flight with the sax of Mulatu Astatke accopanied by the Heliocentrics : an ethiopian-free-hypnotic-jazz-pleasure: Cha Cha.
Enjoy the flight.

We start the US3 trayectory with CAntaloop (Flip Fantasia), form '93 1st LP Hand On The Torch and we discover some influences with Stetsasonic's "Talk in' All That Jazz" from 1988. Back again with US3 songs: "Come On Everybody (Get Down)", Featuring D-Lon, from 2nd LP Broadway & 52nd, of 1997; "I Don't Care", from Say What, album of 2007.
Ready to discover the last work Stop. Think. Run. edited this year. We start with "From The Streets", ft. Sene) and we continue with "I Let 'Em Know", ft. Brook Yung.
Geoff discover us a New Orleans jazzman, Christian Scott with the deeply dark track "Dialect" from 2007's LP Anthem.
Finally, we move the carpet through the time, and we go to New York City in 1957, to listen Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers playing "Evans".
Board on the carpet and enjoy the flight.

Next stop in Europe, with Fanga & the drum master mr.Tony Allen with "Crache la Douleur", track recompiled in the outcoming compilation "Republica afrobeat 3". Africa is calling, so we go to Nairobi, Kenya, to listen
Matata's "Return to You". Short trip to Nigeria, where we continue to discover the last LP of Femi Kuti, with " Eh Oh" and " One two". The next song is form nigeria, but from the 70's: the rock group Ofege play "Wizzie Llabo". Back to the US, listening two songs from a classic funk guitar player, Dennis Coffey. We start from "Scorpio" and we continue with "Big City Funk". We stay in the US, and we stay in the 70's: the drummer Bohannon present "Run it on down mr. DJ" from the Lp Stop & Go. For landing, enjoy the IG Culture's track "Be free".
Have a nice flight.

We start the flight from Nigeria, with Blo's "Chant To Mother Earth" from Chapter One LP. We cross the continent to go to Zambia where Chris Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family recorded "Coffin Maker" and "Fisherman" in 1970. A quick stop in Cameroun, just to listen Manu Dibango's "Pepe Soup", and back again to Nigeria, with the Hykkers's "I want a Break Thru'"and two songs of Ofo The Black Company
"Alla Wakbarr" and "Beautiful Daddy", from the same 7".
To conclude the trip, a track that had nothing to do with rock, but that influenced heavily some prominent rock artist in US: we are speaking of Babatunde Olatunji and "Jin-Go-Lo-Ba".
Prepare your head to move up & down with the sound and enjoy the excursion.

TheFlyingCarpet experiences some technical problem this week and the quality of this podcast is very poor. We are very sorry for this!
For our unconditional listeners, or for whos likes the flavour of old AM radio shows, we have decided to post equally the episode. We have prepared a special flight to Ghana, taking on board Kwame, from Kwame Afrovibes Band. It's a good opportunity to discover ghanaian music throught the experiences of one musician that live the scene in the 70's and in the 80's. We listen some classic afrofunk songs, we discover some track from the first album of Kwame Afrovibes Band, and Kwame play some live track in the studio.
If your will to listen the show is stronger than the poor audio quality, enjoy!
If not, it's a good opportunity to (re)discover some older radioshow.

<itunes:summary>TheFlyingCarpet experiences some technical problem this week and the quality of this podcast is very poor.

TheFlyingCarpet Radioshow # 17 (30jan09) **If god existed, she would be a black woman!**

TheFlyingCarpet have a special trip for you today.
We think that if god existed, she would be a black woman.
Today's songs are some of the evidences we have.
We start with Dinah Washington, singing the Cole Porter standar "I've Got You Under My Skin" and we follow with Sade, with a Cottonbelly mix of the popular "By Your Side". Nexts evidences: Marlena Shaw with "California Soul" and Letta Mbulu with "Mahlalela (Lazy Bones) from his 1970's Chisa Record's album Letta.
More proves? Take this: The African Divas with Frederic Galliano, in this case the senegalese singer Naffi Diédhou, with the groovy song "Koutiom", and the nigerian Lijadu Sisters, with "Orere Eljigbo".
We follow the demonstration with Rokia Traoré and the song "Nienafing", Nina Simone with "Obeah Woman" and Lorez Alexandria with "I'm Whishin".
Still skepticals? Take this: Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators with "My Four Leaf Clover" and finally Ella Fitzgerald accompanied by Count Basie with "Tea For Two".
If you're convinced, not about the existence of god, but about the fact that if god existed she would be a black woman, come back soon on TheFlyingCarpet. If you're not convinced, nevermind and come back soon on TheFlyingCarpet!
Enjoy.
